What Kind of Restorations Are Used for Implant Treatment?

Dental Implant Restorations In Quincy Area

Many prefer implants to traditional bridges and dentures due to their stability, durability, and permanency. Implants are a permanent tooth replacement treatment as they can last a lifetime. If you’re unfamiliar with the implant process, you will have questions about dental implant restorations and implant surgery. Dr. Stephen Matarazzo in Quincy, Massachusetts, has the answers to make an informed decision about this treatment.

What are dental implants?

Implants are small titanium posts that support artificial teeth when real teeth go missing. They’re surgically inserted in your jaw to function like artificial tooth roots.

What’s the process for getting implants?

The implant process generally starts with a consultation to determine if you’re a good candidate for implant treatment. Dr. Matarazzo will assess your overall health, oral health, and jawbone density to see if it’s strong enough to support implants. If everything checks out, we’ll plan your treatment and schedule a date for surgery. The next step is placing the implants in your jawbone surgically and giving them time to fuse with your bone system and heal. Once the implants heal, we’ll attach abutments (connectors) and custom restorations to finalize your treatment.

Are dental implants safe?

Implants have been used for decades to replace lost teeth. Today, the procedure is practically routine and has a 95 to 98% success rate for most treatments. As with any surgical procedure, there are always risks. Working with an experienced implant dentist like Dr. Matarazzo can minimize these risks and improve your chances of having a positive implant experience.

What kind of restorations are used for implants?

Dr. Matarazzo pairs single implants with dental crowns to replace individual missing teeth. To replace multiple missing teeth, we’ll custom-design a bridge to fill the gap and rebuild your smile naturally. Your bridge will be supported by two implants, one on each side of your restoration. Implant partial or full dentures replace an upper or lower arch of teeth or all your teeth using all-on-4 implant treatment. Your denture restoration will give you the look, function, and feel of natural teeth.

Does getting implants hurt?

Many of our patients worry about feeling pain during implant treatment. Rest assured, your procedure will be pain-free. Dr. Matarazzo will numb your mouth for implant placement to avoid all discomfort and pain. Sedation is also an option to help you have a stress-free procedure. Any temporary pain or soreness you feel after your surgery can be managed with OTC or prescription pain medication.

How do you care for implants?

Implants that are well cared for can last a lifetime! Fortunately, implants don’t require special care. You brush and floss implant teeth, just like natural teeth. Dr. Matarazzo will monitor the health of your implants during routine checkups and cleanings.
